Your email list is by far the most valuable marketing asset you own.
There is no other mass media platform that allows cannabis brands the freedom of speech, and power to engage, sell, and scale that email does.

Despite email being the seemingly obvious marketing-platform-of-choice for cannabis brands, so few of them seem to actually take email marketing seriously.
But don’t worry, these brands don’t let a poor email strategy stop them from sending email, after email, after email, after email….
They just send the same generic garbage that 90% of dispos send to their entire list everyday.
Then they wonder why their emails aren’t making any money, and they stop sending them.
Worst part is, if these dispensaries just knew how to audit their strategies to find where their emails are missing the mark, they’d be able to make a few tweaks, and completely transform their emails’ effectiveness.
So, today I’m showing you exactly how I audit email campaigns so you can identify and fix any issues in your strategy that could be costing you thousands in lost revenue:

Identifying the Problem(s):
You can’t fix it if you don’t know what’s wrong.
The first step in reviving a sleepy email list is to conduct an audit. Or, audits…
Here’s how to do it:
👉 Deliverability Audit - Good starting point. Where are your emails landing (inbox, promotions, spam)?
Auditing your deliverability does a few things
Ensures your emails are hitting real inboxes
Helps identify potential red flags like spam complaints, bounce rates (this coud hurt your sender reputation)
Spot technical issues like issues with DNS settings
👉 Engagement Audit - Are people engaging or ignoring your emails?
Analyze open rates and CTR by campaign. Are certain subject lines, offers, or products consistently driving clicks?
Identify your top 20% and bottom 20% subs in terms of email engagement - these 2 groups will be used for re-engagement campaigns very soon.
👉 Segmentation Audit - Where most dispos fail…
What segments do you have in place? Here’s the core 5 you need:
VIP customers - Treat your best customers the best! Send VIP-only deals and special perks.
One-time buyers - You wanna turn these customers into VIPs right? Use this segment to create follow-up sequences, win-back flows, and to collect feedback.
Churned customers - The ones that used to buy, but haven’t in a while. Use this segment the same way you used the one-time buyers segment. Only this time you should have a lot more data on your churned customers making re-engaging much simpler.
Product category shoppers - Everyone’s got preferences. You have to segment your customers by product preference if you wanna engage them. Use these segments to create product-specific offers they can’t refuse.
Loyalty members - Use this segment to send reminders about loyalty point status and celebrate milestones (i.e. moving up a loyalty tier).
👉 Content Audit - Finally, review your last 5-10 campaigns to identify top performing emails, subject lines, CTAs, offers, etc.
Does your tone match your customers’ tone?
Is your brand voice consistent?
Are your CTAs clear an visible?
